Halloween "BOO" Sign

Not too late to Decorate! And this baby is so inexpensive and easy you won't be able to resist making it to hang on your door. Plus it's freakin adorable, right?

The great thing about this is that it looks like wood but was way cheaper. I really wanted to make a "BOO" sign for my door so I looked up a whole bunch of websites to order letters from. And the cheapest I could find for the big letters I wanted was around $20. I honestly didn't want to pay that much because Chandler and I are still in college. It's just not worth it at this time in life. So, I decided to do a little experiment with Foam Core and see if I could make it weather proof enough to be on my front porch for a month.

It actually worked! I've had this sign on my door for over a week and it's rained like crazy the past couple days. My "BOO" sign is still hanging in there great! Want to know the secret? :) Read on!

So first thing to do is find a font you want. I just freehand sketched it onto my foam core but you could easily blow it up, print it out, and trace it. Do you all know what foam core is? It's like two posters with foam in between. You can pick it up at the nearest Walmart for $3. Staples usually has some too and they have a big variety of colors.

Once I had my font all sketched out I cut it out with my X-Acto knife. Once you've got that, the next simple step is to paint your letters with Mod Podge. I used a foam brush, and the best part about this is it leaves strokes that look like wood grain! So it looks like legit wood!! This is great because it waterproofs the foam core and looks super good! Paint both sides as well as all the edges.

When the Mod Podge is dried it's time to decorate! I used a pencil to lightly draw chevron lines on my letters and then added beads with a glue gun. You could easily use ribbon, or buttons, or anything else Halloween looking! So fun :)

Once you've got the front of the letters all decorated and dried, flip the letters over and use pieces of foam core to attach the letters together. I used hot glue for this too. Also, add some kind of string or wire. I attached it by hot gluing the string to the back of the letters and sandwiching it with small squares of foam core to keep it more secure.

That's all there is to it! What do you think? Easy peazy??
